Plant Growth Promoter

Plant Growth Promoters

When we think of the life cycle of any plant or crop what comes to our mind first is the essential factor “Growth”. Let us have a little insight in regards to growth in plants. The plant life cycle consists of four stages; seed, sprout, small plant, and adult plant. When the seed gets planted into the soil with water and sun, then it will start to grow into a small sprout. All plants need the following seven things to grow: room to grow, the right temperature, light, water, air, nutrients, and time. These things are provided by the natural or artificial environments where the plants live. If any of these elements are missing they can limit plant growth.

Growth in plants occurs as the stems and roots lengthen. Some plants, especially those that are woody, also increase in thickness during their life span. The increase in length of the shoot and the root is referred to as primary growth.  It happens as the result of cell division in the shoot apical meristem.  For this growth to happen we need plant growth promoters.

Growth promoter is a natural/herbal fertilizer, especially designed for the overall growth of the plants. These growth promoters are required to accelerate the growth rate and maturation of crops or plants, without disturbing their natural physiological actions.  So what exactly do the plant growth promoters do?  Plant Growth Promoters promote cell division, cell enlargement, flowering, fruiting and seed formation. Examples are auxins, gibberellins and cytokinin’s.

Auxins are powerful growth hormones produced naturally by plants. They are found in shoot and root tips.  They promote cell division, stem and root growth. They may drastically affect plant orientation also by promoting cell division to one side of the plant in response to sunlight and gravity.

The plant hormone gibberellin (GA) controls major aspects of plant growth such as germination, elongation growth, flower development, and flowering time.

Cytokinins (CK) are a class of plant hormones that promote cell division, or cytokinesis, in plant roots and shoots. They are involved primarily in cell growth and differentiation, but also affect apical dominance, axillary bud growth, and leaf senescence.

If sometimes there is a lack of production of this hormone an artificial organic growth promoter like protein hydrolysate powder, Cytokine, agrochemical and copper sulphate can be used. They help in improving productivity and enriches soil which helps plants to grow in a better and healthier way.

Now the question comes in is why should we use Plant Growth Promoters Bacteria (PGPB)?

  • PGPB has a direct effect on plant growth:- Plant development is aided by PGPB, which increases the availability of nutrients including nitrogen, phosphorus, and iron. These nutrients are essential for plant biochemistry, and plant development is restricted without them. While nitrogen, phosphorus, and iron are plentiful in the soil, they are frequently in forms that the plant cannot use. PGPB transforms the nutrients into a form that the plant can utilize. In return for food sources from the plant, PGPB may also create plant hormones such as auxins, gibberellins, and cytokinin’s, which encourage plant root and shoot development.
  • The plant is protected by PGPB:- Through microbial antagonism, PGPB is able to defend the plant from diseases. Pathogens are outcompeted for resources by PGPB, which produces antibiotics and antifungal metabolites. Through Induced Systemic Resistance, PGPB can also assist the plant in defending itself against diseases (ISR). ISR stimulates the plant’s defensive mechanism, which includes strengthening plant cell walls, generating antimicrobial phytoalexins, and manufacturing pathogen-related proteins.

To conclude, now we know how important growth promoters are to keep our plants healthy and how they work in your plants to keep them nourished.
